1000 Clean Sheets for Haiti |
|
January 15th, 2010
“There are bodies everywhere,” Gary Tuchman, the CNN reporter said 2 evenings ago, as he walked through an anonymous Port Au Prince Street. Holding the camera as Tuchman looked directly into it was his CNN colleague who peered constantly into his lens even as he looked back over his shoulders to the ground to avoid stepping on the dead. “Some of the bodies” Tuchman continued, “are covered with sheets, Haitians are putting these sheets over the dead as a mark of respect.”
After seeing that clip on CNN, Judette Coward of Mango Media came up with the brilliant hands on idea of “1000 sheets for Haiti.” When I heard about it I was moved and would like CECU to join Mango Media in their effort to assist Haiti in this time of devastation and despair. We are asking members to bring in clean sheets at our office on #10 Victoria Avenue, Port of Spain, so that we can send it to our fellow brothers and sisters in Haiti as we start our own drive and to assist Mango Media in this effort. CECU will deliver all sheets to Mango Media located on Dere Street, Port of Spain. We will also me making calls and asking for pledges of cotton sheets or blankets.
